Pre-connection Wi-Fi checklist

Last Updated: Oct 25, 2014 02:51PM UTC
  1. Verify that there is a C wire by removing the batteries
  2. Make sure the thermostat is not in Simple Screen Mode. If you do NOT see the days of the week under the large temperature reading, you are in Simple Screen. Turn your thermostat mode to OFF, press and hold the Program button for 12 seconds to toggle out of Simple Screen.
  3. Make sure that you have inserted the module. Give the module an extra push to be sure it is seated snugly in the thermostat.
  4. Press Reset under the top cover. You can also try a factory default reset:  Turn the mode to OFF, press the Menu button. You should see a blank space in the middle of the screen. Press and hold your finger against that blank space until the screen changes. Press the Up Arrow icon to reset the thermostat (you'll see a countdown), then press the Down Arrow icon. When the countdown is finished, press the House icon twice to return to the main screen.
  5. Check the router
    1. Make sure the router is closer than 20 feet to the thermostat
    2. Use WPA or WPA2 for your security
    3. We have noticed that certain routers have an "Always On" feature. If yours does, you must check the "Always On" box.
    4. Some routers are set up to 'automatically connect" to your home wireless, make sure that is not checked in your router set up
    5. If your router is a dual band router, make sure you use the band that is 2.4GHz
    6. We use port 80
    7. Our thermostats need to be on a G network or at least have to be set up to both N and G traffic. They will not work properly on N only networks. Also most phones will only work on G networks
    8. WiFi standard we use is 802.11g
    9. Make sure your internet browser is not set to “Filter Content”, it should be set to “Allow All Content”.
